Because there really isn&#8217;t one E-Bike motor. Instead, there is a whole spectrum of different motors that have been created for different requirements. A distinction is made between:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Rear motor \/ rear wheel motor<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mid-motor<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Front motor \/ hub motor<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What are the differences between rear motor, mid-motor and front motor?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Not all E-Bike motors are the same. The thrusts from the rear give a sporty feeling when riding with this E-Bike motor. You often find this E-Bike motor on city E-Bikes, e.g. the BIRD bike or our Allegro E-Bikes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Advantages:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The chain is relieved of load. This reduces wear.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Quiet drive<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ideal for flat to hilly routes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Suitable for load transport<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Disadvantages:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Not ideal for steep routes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Not suitable for mountain E-Bikes, as this E-Bike motor provides too little support<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The high weight in the rear part of the E-Bike has a negative effect on off-road riding performance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Advantages and disadvantages of the mid-motor<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The mid-mounted motor is by far the most common E-Bike motor. You will find it mainly in Trekking and Mountain E-Bikes, e.g. in our FISCHER E-Bikes or the CILO mountain bikes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The mid-motor is located in the middle of the E-Bike &#8211; somehow logical, isn&#8217;t it?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Advantages:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Good weight distribution on front and rear wheel<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Agile handling and excellent riding dynamics<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Also ideal for jumps or riding on uneven terrain<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fast responsiveness<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Flexible choice of gears: both derailleur and hub gears are possible<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Disadvantages:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>No retrofitting possible<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Complex frame construction<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>High wear on chain and sprockets<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rather expensive<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Heavier than a front motor<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Not necessarily quiet<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Advantages and disadvantages of a front motor \/ hub motor<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A front E-Bike motor is rarely found. We also do not sell E-Bikes with front motors on our website. In Switzerland, this type of E-Bike motor is rather inconvenient because we live in a country with many hills and mountains. This is not very ideal terrain for the front motor, which tends to shine much more in flat countries. Nevertheless, we still want to present you with the advantages and disadvantages of this E-Bike motor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Advantages:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The most affordable E-Bike motor<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Can be combined with all shifting systems<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Supports already when starting, independent of the gear<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Requires less maintenance than other motors<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lightweight<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Energy efficient<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Disadvantages:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Higher risk of slipping<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Less power<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Weight shift to the front of the bike<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Not suitable for mountainous areas<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Less natural riding feel<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">So which E-Bike motor is better: mid-, rear- or rear-wheel motor?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As with many things, it depends. Every E-Bike motor has different advantages and disadvantages that you have to weigh up against each other. While front motors are more suitable for flat areas, but cheaper, here in Switzerland mainly mid- and rear-mounted motors are sold &#8211; and the mid-mounted motor is generally the most common E-Bike motor.
