1. Storage capacity and motor<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Battery power or capacity is expressed in terms of watt-hours (Wh). Our models range from 252 Wh-670 Wh. You should choose the model that best suits your use. You can find instructions on how to do this in the blog post “7 things to look out for when buying an e-bike”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Does your e-bike have an especially powerful motor? This aspect is also one of the important factors that determine the distance over which the e-bike battery can supply you with energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 2. Riding style<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n There are different levels of assistance on all electric bikes. You can ride with light assistance or switch on the motor more to increase your speed. A high level of power will allow you to reach your destination like the wind and without beads of sweat on your forehead. As a result, the motor works harder and draws more energy from the battery. Accordingly, your battery will not last as long with high assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 3. Outdoor conditions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Flat, level stretches are comparatively easy to master and consume little power. If you ride up a steep slope, the effort required for you and the motor is multiplied. This also varies depending on how high the pedal assist is set and drains the battery accordingly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Weather conditions also play an important role. Wind, for example, can have a positive or negative effect on your ride. A strong headwind costs you additional energy and has a negative effect on the battery life. If you have a tailwind, on the other hand, you will have to expend less effort and energy for the same distance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Other factors that directly influence battery life:<\/p>\n\n\n\n As you can see, the range depends on many factors and therefore varies greatly. Bosch has a handy range calculator, which we are happy to link to at the end of this post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Are you on the road and notice that you don’t have enough juice to get home? Switch down the assistance level, start slowly and gently and pedal in a lighter gear. Try to take a route with as little ground resistance as possible. Road paths are best for this. Either way, there is little to worry about, because you can of course ride the e-bike without the drive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n If you are on the road for a longer time: Maybe there is a charging station nearby? Next time you could also take a spare battery with you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n According to information from the manufacturer Bosch, the complete charging time is between 2.5h and 4.5h, depending on the battery. The Shimano brand states 2.5 hours for the 504 Wh model until it is 80% charged. A full charge takes approximately 5 hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n According to Bosch, a battery can be charged around 500 times without losing capacity. After that, it can still be charged to 60-70 %. According to the manufacturer, you can expect an average of 1000 charging cycles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The service life depends on several factors that you can easily influence: The battery should always be stored in a dry environment and protected from direct sunlight. The optimum temperature is between 15-20 degrees. If you are transporting the e-bike, it is recommended that you remove the battery and store it well. If you plan to store the e-bike for several months and not use it, it is best to charge the battery to 50-70% so that it is not damaged.
