In order to ride such an e-bike legally according to Swiss traffic law, you must apply for an S-pedelec driving licence and observe the following rules:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You must have a driver&#8217;s licence M and a yellow number plate.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Third-party insurance is compulsory.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Helmets are compulsory.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These points are regulated by law and must be observed in any case. Unlike e-bikes with a maximum speed of up to 25 km\/h, S-pedelecs belong to the category of motorbikes. Hence the need for you to have a driving licence for them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">S-pedelec driving licence&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to obtain a driver&#8217;s licence, you must register your e-bike with the Road Traffic Office. To register, you will need your vehicle registration document, the relevant registration form and a copy of your passport.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The vehicle registration document will be sent to you separately by post with the delivery. If you have not yet received it, please send a short e-mail to sales@mybikeplan.ch or contact us by telephone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The next step is to fill out the application form for the driver&#8217;s licence. You can find this online at the road traffic office in your region. Together with your vehicle registration document and a copy of your passport, you send the documents to the road traffic office. After your details have been checked and processed, you will receive your S-pedelec driver&#8217;s licence (moped licence, category M) by post.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Third-party insurance<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You will also receive the number plate and vignette by post. This means that you have automatically taken out the necessary liability insurance. If you were to cause damage to a third person or property (which we do not assume, of course), you are financially covered.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The annual costs for liability insurance vary from canton to canton. In the canton of Zurich, the cost of the vignette is CHF 4.90 and CHF 48.60 for the insurance, making a total of CHF 53.50 per year. Fortunately, traffic taxes do not apply to e-bikes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, the paperwork is done! What&#8217;s still missing? The helmet!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Compulsory helmet<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>S-pedelec drivers are required to wear a certified helmet with SN EN 1078 certification. Make sure you wear the right helmet, because it will keep your precious head safe on the road. You can find the applicable regulations here.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last but not least, we recommend that you attach a rear-view mirror to your S-pedelec. From a legal point of view this is not obligatory, but it offers you many advantages and above all you can massively increase your safety with this simple tool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now you are ready for the traffic! Admittedly, a little effort is required at the beginning.
