Unfortunately, little is known about the importance of the correct, ergonomic seating position on the bike. Poor posture affects your joints and can cause pain. In this article we would like to show you 5 important ways on how you can improve your posture on your e-bike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. posture by e-bike category<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are the following categories of e-bikes:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>City E-Bike<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Trekking E-Bike<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mountain E-Bike<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The geometry of the frame shape and construction of these bikes differs depending on the category. Basically, the more athletic the bike, the more forward the seating position is inclined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Starting with the City E-bike, the posture should be only minimally forward leaning. Since the focus here is not on maximum possible speed or sporting goals, the position is rather comfortable. You can look straight ahead, pedal lightly to the supermarket and enjoy the fresh air.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The trekking e-bike is a little more athletic. It is your faithful companion for everyday life and leisure, so you pursue several goals with it. Sometimes you want to take it easy, sometimes you are out in nature and want to push your leg muscles to the limit or get to your destination particularly quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For this reason, the trekking e-bike is a little more forward leaning, sporty and yet also suitable for everyday use.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sportiest of the e-bikes is definitely the mountain e-bike. It is mostly used on uneven terrain &#8211; especially the Fullys among them &#8211; and is therefore geometrically designed for this purpose. The body is oriented forward to generate as little resistance as possible and support optimal power development in the legs.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Determine the correct saddle height<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Should the knees be straight or bent? Should your feet reach the ground when you sit on the e-bike?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For knees it is especially important that you adjust the saddle ergonomically.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the saddle is set too high, then &#8230; :&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Your knees are fully extended when your foot is at the lowest position (18:00).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You will notice that your pelvis moves sideways when you pedal.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Shocks on your ride will have a greater effect on your knees and hips.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If the saddle is set too low, then &#8230;:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Your knees are clearly bent when your foot is in the lowest position (18:00).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your knees are bent when you ride, which puts more pressure on the kneecap and the joint.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It is best to sit on your e-bike under a door frame so that you can hold on for balance support. Be sure to put on the shoes you will later wear on your rides. With both feet on the pedals, check for a slight flexion. In the next step you can put your heels on the pedals. Your heels are now at the lowest point (18:00) and your knees should be slightly extended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now test the same thing while riding your e-bike. Are your hips still and your knees never fully extended? Again, you can repeat the heel test. Your pelvis should still remain still. If you notice that you almost lose the pedals or that your pelvis moves sideways, you can lower the saddle another 1-2 cm. Then try the same thing again &#8211; now the seat height should be adjusted correctly!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. The correct sitting position for your back<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Regardless of whether you are riding a trekking e-bike, city e-bike or mountain e-bike, it is essential for all cyclists to pay attention to the correct back position. The most important thing is that you do not &#8220;slump&#8221;. Make sure your back is straight and try not to fall into a round, banana-like shape (picture 1, &#8220;incorrect&#8221;).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Roll your pelvis slightly forward so that your tailbone is slightly relieved and your belly button moves towards the handlebars. Do the same with your upper back. Straighten it up and lift your chest so that your sternum is facing forward instead of straight towards the floor. You can also imagine pushing slightly away from the handlebars. Make sure your shoulders are relaxed and far away from your ears instead of pulling them up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The difference between correct and incorrect can be seen in picture 1 &#8220;correct&#8221; vs. &#8220;incorrect&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Correct posture for your neck<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Let&#8217;s move on to the neck. Here we want to avoid a &#8220;kink&#8221; in the spine. If your sitting position on the bike is not upright, you will have to lift your head upwards to compensate (as in picture 1, &#8220;incorrect&#8221;). This would lead to a strong bending of the cervical spine &#8211; which we want to avoid.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We achieve a correct position by moving your chin slightly towards your neck, like a &#8220;double chin&#8221;, and imagining that your neck becomes long. Look forward (&#8220;facing the road&#8221;), but try not to lose this gained length in your neck.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. Don&#8217;t forget your arms<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Make sure that your elbows are not overstretched, but slightly bent. The pressure on the wrists should be light. Do you notice that there is a lot of weight on your hands?
