It is therefore all the more important that you observe the rules of public transport. We have summarised the most important points for you in order to be safe on your e-bike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This may sound obvious, but it is one of the most fundamental points in the area of e-bike safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If you want to ride on the cycle path, then you should refrain from choosing an S-pedelec. This is because fast e-bikes are required to use road paths, where there is a higher risk of accidents with all the additional road users. If you want to go on long-distance tours, a trekking e-bike is recommended; in this case, a wrongly chosen city e-bike could lead to complaints due to insufficient cushioning. In addition, trekking e-bikes are also specifically designed for longer distances and increased stress, which offers greater safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In short: Choose the e-bike that suits your lifestyle!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With an e-bike, as with any other vehicle, it is important to always be visible to other road users. Therefore, you should always make sure that you have sufficient lighting. It is recommended that you always switch on your headlights, both during the day and at night. At dusk and at night, the risk of a bike accident is 3 times higher than during the day. For the best visibility on your e-bike, you can also use a yellow waistcoat to protect yourself even better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When riding on the road, it is essential to respect the rules. Just like driving a car, traffic signs, speed limits and traffic lights are there to regulate traffic and ensure safety. If they are ignored or not fully respected, this leads to an increased risk of accidents for all road users, from which no one benefits. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
When riding a fast e-bike that goes up to 45 km\/h, a bicycle helmet is compulsory according to the Swiss Road Traffic Act (more on this in the blog post on S-pedelecs). The additional speed compared to a “slow” e-bike should not be underestimated, because the braking distance and the risks during daily cycling increase drastically with higher speed. In fact, S-pedelecs are considered regular motorised vehicles, which for this reason must be registered with the road traffic office and require the conclusion of liability insurance. For e-bikes travelling at 25 km\/h, wearing a helmet is not compulsory, but is strongly recommended for obvious safety reasons. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
For e-bikes going up to 25 km\/h, you are allowed to use cycle paths, as normal e-bikes belong to the category of conventional bicycles. This provides more safety as you are protected from direct contact with more powerful vehicles. Unfortunately, S-pedelecs are not allowed on cycle paths, as they are considered motorbikes and must therefore be ridden on the road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We are often asked, “Can you cycle in the rain or snow?” The answer is: “Yes!” E-bikes are designed to be used in all weather conditions – provided you adapt your riding style and safety precautions. No more excuses not to use your e-bike in bad weather! \ud83d\ude09 <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As mentioned, however, it is especially important to conscientiously adjust your own riding style in bad weather conditions and to be even more careful on the road and cycle path. As with driving any vehicle, the use of mobile phones is prohibited! Not only does it distract you, but it can also cause you to lose control of your vehicle and put yourself and others in danger. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Be aware of the things you take and carry on your ride. Each e-bike (from trekking to city e-bikes) has its own specific weight limit. This is calculated from the weight of the bike, the rider and the goods you are transporting. Make sure that you do not exceed this weight limit. Also, when using a basket or trailer, always make sure that your items are well secured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
