The suspension of a bicycle makes it possible to compensate for the irregularities of the terrain by creating a stable connection between the chassis and the wheels. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
For the cyclist, this is essential. Depending on what kind of terrain you are riding on, there will be bumpy sections of road. The shocks from riding over them go directly to your joints through your arms, legs and buttocks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The suspension allows you to absorb the shocks and minimise the impact on your joints. Your knees, hips, shoulders and back are protected from these impacts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The suspension is located wherever you come into contact with the bike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The front shock – the suspension fork – connects the front wheel to the bike frame. It is found on a wide range of models. Mountain e-bikes all have a suspension fork, as do trekking e-bikes. By definition, these require suitable suspension because they are used on uneven terrain. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
City e-bikes are different. Some models have a damper, others lack a suspension fork. This also depends on the style of the bike. A classic city e-bike will therefore almost certainly not have a suspension fork, while those with a sporty look may well have one. For e-bikes without suspension, it is important that they are only used on paved roads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The rear shock is located below the saddle, in the extension of the seat post. This is specifically designed for e-bikes that travel on very rough terrain and need to be equipped for this. In this context, we speak of mountain e-bikes, which can be divided into two categories as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The suspension travel is measured in millimetres (mm). There are differences between the models. The suspension travel corresponds to the vertical displacement of the fork and thus the absorption of shocks. On trekking e-bikes, this is between 40-75 mm. In comparison, mountain e-bikes have a suspension travel between 100 and 160 mm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
