What now?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">E-bike thefts are becoming more frequent<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2021, more than 8,000 e-bikes were stolen in Switzerland. This represents an increase of 47 percent compared to the previous year. So e-bike thefts are on the rise. As with all things, the same applies here: Better safe than sorry. We have therefore put together the best tips on how you can better protect your e-bike from theft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Always leave your e-bike in a safe place<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Whether you leave your bike for weeks or just for a few minutes, always make sure it is in a safe place. If you have the opportunity, we recommend that you store your bike in your basement or garage. Whenever possible, use bicycle parking when you are out and about.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Use a good quality bike lock<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>E-bikes are larger than conventional bikes, so the lock should be adapted. We recommend that you invest in a quality lock that can withstand any theft attempt. When using your lock, remember to secure the bike so that it cannot roll away. An e-bike may be heavier, but that doesn&#8217;t stop anyone from lifting it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our recommendation: U-shaped padlocks are the most effective padlocks. We ourselves particularly like the padlocks from ABUS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The ABUS GRANIT EXTREME 59 is a lock that is also suitable for motorbikes. It is therefore perfect for conventional e-bikes or S-pedelecs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The ABUS 440 ALARM is a lock with an alarm. If someone tries to manipulate the lock in an unusual way, it triggers an alarm that deters thieves.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Remove the battery from the e-bike<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the most expensive parts of the e-bike is the battery. So remove it every time you park it. An e-bike without a battery is not as valuable, and the purchase price of a battery can deter a potential thief from doing the deed.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Write down the frame number immediately after receiving the e-bike.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This step is crucial in case of theft. The frame number of your bike is an identifier that allows you to distinguish each bike. You need this number if you want to report your e-bike to the insurance company in case of theft. Only with this number is there a chance and hope that your bike will be found. By providing this number, your bike will automatically be listed as stolen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Enter your e-bike in a free or paid register<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are free or paid registers that you can use to register your bike online. The main advantage is that your frame number is stored in a safe place. Users of the website can find and report stolen bikes on the platform, making it easier for you to get your bike back. We recommend Suisse Velo as a registry because it is well established.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Think about insurance when buying an e-bike<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In most cases, the bike is insured through the household insurance. However, sometimes this is not the case for various reasons. We therefore advise you to contact your insurance company when buying an e-bike to make sure that your bike is insured. By the way: We also offer you special e-bike insurance on our website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please note that 45 km\/h e-bikes are insured differently because they are motorised vehicles (category M). Therefore, a separate insurance policy must be taken out for S-pedelecs.
