      1. Cities give you money for your e-bike – yes, really!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        Switzerland is constantly developing solutions to promote bicycle use in general. There are more and more cycle paths and bike parking spaces. Getting around by e-bike is an excellent way to leave the car in the garage, reduce CO2-emissions and generally behave more responsibly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

        To support this movement and make cycling accessible to all, some cities even offer subsidies for the purchase of an e-bike. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

        • Geneva : The cantonal subsidy applies to cargo bikes. It can be up to CHF 500 and the amount cannot exceed 10% of the purchase price.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Lausanne : The proposed subsidy is CHF 400, but the amount may not exceed 15 % of the purchase price. It applies to all e-bikes, with the exception of fast 45km\/h bikes. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Nyon : The town of Nyon offers a subsidy of 10% of the price of an electric or non-electric bike (up to CHF 300 for e-bikes).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

            The Federal Council has decided on new rules for the use of e-bikes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

            From 01 April 2022, every e-bike must ride with its lights on, both at night and during the day. This is intended to prevent accidents and improve the visibility of riders. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

            For S-pedelecs (e-bikes that can travel up to 45 km\/h), the Federal Council provides for a speed compliance rule. It states that every e-bike that can travel up to 45 km\/h must be equipped with a speedometer “so that speed limits are observed, especially in zones 20 and 30”. This measure will come into force on 1 April 2024 for newly sold bikes. Bicycles sold before then must be retrofitted by 2027. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

            5) The e-bike is a cost-effective means of transport<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

            An e-bike is more expensive than a conventional bicycle, but it is also much more suitable for everyday use because it allows you to cover long distances with less effort. It is also much cheaper if you compare the costs with those of a car. In the long run, the prices for fuel, parking and insurance alone are much higher than the costs for an e-bike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            For those wondering about the cost of charging: Let’s take a 500-Wh battery as an example (this covers about 50 km of distance). At an average price of about 14 cents per kWh, a charge will only cost you 7 cents, or 0.14 to 0.18 CHF \/100 km. So a pretty good deal compared to current fuel prices \ud83d\ude09 .<\/p>\n\n\n\n
