We explain how to get your e-bike ready for the new season in no time!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>First things first: your e-bike\u2019s battery<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The battery is the most important element of your e-bike, because without it your electric bike is just a bike. To prolong the life of your battery and ensure that you get the most out of your e-bike, we recommend the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Even if you don&#8217;t use your e-bike every day, you should charge your battery every two to three months to prevent it from breaking down.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Charging the battery for too long can damage it. It is recommended that you store the battery at about 75% of its capacity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How can I tell if my battery is still working?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can tell that your battery is ageing or not as powerful as it used to be if it is unable to hold a full charge for many hours, or if the charge drops quickly. The best decision is to replace the battery with a new one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can find out how best to look after your battery in this blog post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Checking the brakes on your e-bike<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brake pads wear out after a certain time and need to be checked and adjusted to ensure the proper functioning and optimal safety. Make sure that your brakes are in perfect condition.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How can I tell if my brakes are still working?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Squeeze the brake levers and visually check if the callipers move towards the rim or the brake disc. The brakes must not stick and must stop the moving wheel completely. It is also important to check if the sound of your brakes has changed, e.g. squealing or grinding. If this is the case, we recommend that you take your electric bike to a workshop.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ideal tyre pressure for an e-bike<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On e-bikes, the tyre pressure has a considerable influence on the battery range. A tyre loses about one bar of pressure per month and should therefore be checked regularly, especially after a long winter break. The minimum and maximum pressure of the respective model is indicated by the manufacturer on the sidewall of the tyre. Important: A &#8220;thumb pressure test&#8221; is not sufficient. It is advisable to use a pump with a pressure gauge or a special pressure gauge. At this stage, you should also check that the tyres are not brittle or cracked and that the tread is adequate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The chain and sprocket of your e-bike<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After you have checked the tyres, you should check the chains and sprockets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Check whether the chains are too loose or too tight. You should also check whether the chain needs to be lubricated. Like every bicycle with a chain drive, your e-bike has a drive system consisting of pedals, cranks, chainrings, chain sprockets and the rear derailleur. The drive converts your pedalling motion into a forward motion. This creates a lot of friction between the many moving parts, which need to be well-lubricated to avoid wear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately, the lubricant attracts dirt and dust. After a few months of storage, your bike&#8217;s gearbox will probably be quite dirty, especially if you did not clean it before storing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How to clean your e-bike&#8217;s gearbox properly<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When it&#8217;s time for spring cleaning, don&#8217;t just hose down your e-bike. The water causes rust, which considerably shortens the life of the gearbox.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To clean the gearbox properly, you should turn your bike upside down to make the job easier. We recommend that you take an old toothbrush or a specially designed brush with soft bristles, a clean cloth and a bottle of gear degreaser. Gently scrub the length of the chain with the brush, making sure to remove any build-up of debris. To speed up this process, put some degreaser on a clean cloth. Then use the brush to remove dirt from the gears and other parts of the transmission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Checking the gears<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After you have checked the chain, it is time to check the gears of the bike. You need to check the gears for the following problems:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Deformation &#8211; Check that the gears are in optimum shape. They must not be deformed in any way.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rust &#8211; Check if there is rust on the gears.
