Unlike a normal bike, an e-bike has a lot of expensive electronics that should never get wet. It is therefore all the more important that you know how to prevent moisture from getting in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We have summarised the most important points for you so that you can enjoy a safe and carefree ride even in the rain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Is my e-bike protected against rain?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What do I have to consider when riding my e-bike in the rain?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How do I find out the protection level of my e-bike?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Transporting the e-bike in the rain<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How to store your e-bike in the rain<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How do I protect the e-bike battery from moisture?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Is my e-bike protected against rain?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>First things first: Is your e-bike rainproof at all?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The short answer: Yes, it is! Most e-bikes are well protected against rain and splashing water. The electronics and motor are securely built in, so you usually don&#8217;t have to worry about water getting in. Check the protection level of your e-bike to find out how rainproof it is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How do I find out the protection level of my e-bike?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The water resistance of each e-bike is different. Depending on how well your e-bike can handle wet conditions, it will be assigned a different IP rating. This indicates the degree of protection against the penetration of foreign bodies such as water, dirt, or dust. On most e-bike drive systems you will find the IP code &#8220;IP 54&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first digit stands for the degree of protection against foreign bodies and contact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The second digit stands for protection against the ingress of water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the IP-54 code, your e-bike is basically well protected against dust and splash water. Some e-bikes have an even higher degree of protection specifically against water jets (&#8220;IP X5&#8221;) or strong water jets (&#8220;IP X6&#8221;). With an IP X7, your e-bike is even protected against complete immersion in water for a short time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, remember: even with the highest degree of protection, your e-bike is not 100 % waterproof! In the worst case, water can penetrate the inside if it gets too wet, e.g. during heavy showers or if your e-bike is left outside in the rain for too long. Too much waterproofing can also damage your e-bike (for example, if you ride through deep puddles). In other words: avoid cycling in heavy rain and do not go swimming with your e-bike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By the way: You can also protect your e-bike by using a waterproofing spray. This prevents rust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After riding, it is best to clean the e-bike to wash off dirt and dry it properly. This will prevent long-term damage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What do you have to consider when riding an e-bike in the rain?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>These are our recommendations if you plan to ride your e-bike in the rain:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Avoid deep puddles and water accumulations: Not only can this cause water to penetrate the expensive electronics of your e-bike &#8211; it is also dangerous for you because the risk of slipping increases! Be especially careful of puddles near the road. These can be mixed with oils or lubricants and thus become even more slippery. The same applies to road markings and leaves.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do not drive in heavy rain! Again, too much rain is not only a danger for e-bike electronics, but also for yourself!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Check your braking ability: It is best to check the brakes before you set off. Because in the rain, your bikes behave differently than you might be used to.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make sure you have enough light on your e-bike: Visibility is limited in the rain, which is why the light on your e-bike is even more important. Ideally, you should wear a light waistcoat to be seen better.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ride slower than usual! This should also be a matter of course in the rain. Don&#8217;t start at the highest assistance level, avoid jerky steering movements, brake early, and don&#8217;t lean too much into bends.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, special rainwear is essential if you want to ride an e-bike in the rain. In most sports shops you will find a wide range of cycling clothing to keep you well-protected even in wet and cold conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Transporting your e-bike in the rain<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It may happen that you want to transport your e-bike over long distances &#8211; e.g. on holiday. Basically, it is no problem to transport the e-bike by car even in the rain. It is best to remove all loose parts before the journey and stow them in the boot, e.g. the display or the battery. You should also cover your e-bike with a special protective cover and make sure that it is not loosely attached to the bike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to store your e-bike in the rain<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you leave your e-bike out in the rain for a long time, it can be damaged or rust can develop. Therefore, it is best to store it in a place protected from the rain, e.g. in a dry interior room. If this is not possible, then cover the e-bike with a special bicycle tarp! This is the only way to avoid damage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to store your e-bike for a longer period of time in winter or autumn, there are a few recommendations you should keep in mind. You can find out more about them in this blog post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How do I protect the e-bike battery from moisture?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The battery is the heart of your e-bike. It is designed in such a way that moisture cannot normally penetrate it. It is often difficult for laypersons to determine when the battery has become wet &#8211; so if in doubt, you should always go to a bicycle mechanic to have it checked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even if you have only been out in the rain for a short time, it is worth taking the battery out after the ride and drying it with a terry cloth. You should be especially careful when cleaning your e-bike so that no moisture gets on the battery.
