When you lie into a turn while mountain biking, it’s not much different from the feeling of racing through powder snow on skis. The weight distribution is also similar: for example, when skiing, almost all the weight is shifted to the outer foot when cornering – just like mountain biking when you use the weight distribution in the feet to smoothly get around the curves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Have you ever stood at the top of a steep slope on your skis and just let yourself go? The feeling of sinking is not much different from mountain biking. <\/p>\n\n\n\n And that’s just the beginning! The two sports are really more similar than you would think. We would even go so far as to say that they complement each other and in combination make a varied sports programme for the whole year. So it’s hardly surprising that more and more skiers are taking up mountain biking in the summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n More and more skiers are also mountain bikers in summer because they have discovered the advantages of both sports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Mountain biking builds endurance and strength in the lower body and promotes circulation – the same skills that are used in skiing. Some skiers even go so far as to train on a mountain bike in the summer in order not to lose their stamina on skis<\/a>. In addition, mountain biking helps to reduce inhibitions on the mountain and to become mentally stronger – all things that are at least as relevant on the slopes. In this blog article, mountain biking is even explicitly recommended as a way to improve skiing skills<\/a> – a trend that is becoming more and more popular every year!<\/p>\n\n\n\n It can be assumed that mountain biking will continue to gain in popularity in the future – and may even replace skiing altogether as the Swiss national sport. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The thought process behind this is quite obvious: with their cable cars and lifts, the ski resorts already have the infrastructure to turn the slopes into nerve-racking downhill trails in summer. Many ski resorts, such as in St. Moritz, already offer skis and mountain bikes for rent in an annual subscription.<\/p>\n\n\n\n With the rise in temperatures caused by climate change, the ski season is likely to become shorter and shorter in the coming years – another factor that will encourage the growth of mountain biking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And at this point, mountain e-bikes should not be forgotten: The trend around motorised mountain bikes will not stop in 2023 and will probably continue in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n So will mountain biking replace skiing in the future?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n No. At least not in the foreseeable future. But mountain biking will certainly become more and more relevant, especially for the summer season or winters with little snow.
